Duck pond running dry for the third time this year

For months the metro has promised to fix the pump at the George Sutter Park duck pond, but nothing has come of their promises.

The Selection Park pond is a familiar site next to Nigel Road, and many people enjoy having lunch there or to feed their feathered friends living at the pond.

Shadow Shabangu, ward councillor, says the metro needs to come to the party now, because the low water tables in the pond has been going on for too long.

He feels the metro has to take responsibility for the duck pond and stop making excuses.

“The metro’s excuses of finding a contractor to install a borehole pump is temporary excuses,” he says.

With the pump already bought and no contractor found to install it, the poor ducks are suffering once again.

Shabangu says the water level is at the moment quite low and the issue has been going on for too long.

A Springs resident Louise Schaap says the metro has lost sight of what it stands for and the parks and recreation, especially in the predominantly ‘well-off’ or ‘tax paying’ suburbs are no longer being maintained and totally ignored.

The metro has been informed about the incident, but no comment was received yet.
