Mama Matthew sells clothes for cheap

Although it is not a charity shop it serves like one.

Chinelle Sham from Geduld, also known as Mama Matthew to the locals, has her own clothing shop that provides clothes for the lower income community.

She started this little business in Fifth Avenue, Geduld in June last year.

“We are not a charity shop, if people want to donate their clothes, I always insist on buying the clothes from them,” she says.

Although it is not a charity shop per sé, it serves like one.

Chinelle does not give the clothes away as she says she also needs to make a living, no matter how small it is.

She sells any clothing item from as little as R3 to a maximum of R10 for shirts, pants, shoes and other pieces of clothing.

New-born baby clothing and other children’s clothes are also available at her shop.

She chooses to buy from the public and schools for children who are in desperate need of school clothes but whose parents cannot afford it and sells the school clothes for R10 or less.

However, Chinelle says they have a shortage of clothes as people who enter her shop cannot always find their size.

“We are not expecting any handouts, like I said, I always offer to buy the clothes at a reasonable price,” she adds.
