Glider makes emergency landing

Two men, believed to be in their 40s, were injured during the accident at the Springs Airfield.

The motorised Faulke glider took off  for an introduction flight on Saturday at about 11.50am, when the accident occurred.

According to a reliable source, at the airfield, the pilot attempted an emergency landing due to an engine failure.

Netcare 911 paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found the crumpled remains of the aircraft lying next to the runway.

After assessment of the two men, it was found that one man was in a critical condition and the other man was in a serious condition.

Both patients were treated on the scene before transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

Exact details surrounding the crash and preceding events are still unclear and will remain the subject of a Civil Aviation Authority investigation.
