Court convictions

The following cases were heard the past week in the Springs District Court.

n Sam Moyana (20), Peter Paulo (22), Raphael John (30), Paulo Zakaria (30), Leonel Moyo (29), Nhamo Nhamo (26), Nasane Mohamed (23) all from Tembisa and Raul Muhlanga (22) all appeared in court on a charge of theft.

They pleaded guilty and were found guilty on August 28.

The charges were withdrawn against accused two, three, four, five, six and seven.

Sam Moyana and Raul Muhlanga were sentenced to 12 months imprisonment directly.

The men were arrested on August 8 after they stole copper cables along the N17 highway.

The officer who presided over the matter was magistrate Joshua Mashao and the prosecutor was Bheki Mbatha.

n Marileze Du Plooy (27) from the Free State, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

She pleaded and was found guilty on September 8 and sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of R4 000.

She stole toiletries and shoe polish on September 4 from a local shop in Springs.

The officer who presided over the matter was magistrate Joshua Mashao and the prosecutor was Bheki Mbatha.

n Maurkwa Sergio Mobunda (23) from KwaThema appeared in court on a charge of theft.

The accused pleaded guilty and was found guilty on September 9 and sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of R3 000, suspended for five years.

On August 18 the accused stole two copper brass bars of about 20kg to the value of R1 200.

The officer who presided over the matter was magistrate Joshua Mashao and the prosecutor was Bheki Mbatha.
