EMPD catches nine speeding motorists

This law enforcement was done on Welgedacht Road between Enstra Road and Grootvaly Road on a 60km/h zone.

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) caught nine motorists speeding on Thursday morning in Springs.

Senior Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman of the EMPD says the speed law enforcement was done on Welgedacht Road between Enstra Road and Grootvaly Road.

This is a 60km/h zone, in which nine speedsters were arrested within half an hour, between 5am and 5:30am.

A 38-year-old female driver in a Toyota sedan, who claimed she was rushing to work, was caught doing 108km/h.

Three drivers in their early thirties, all driving German-made vehicles clocked at speeds of between 100km/h and 107km/h while the rest of the motorists that were caught registered speeds of between 99km/h and 96km/h.

All the arrested motorists were charged with reckless and negligent driving at Springs police station and released on bail of R1 000.

They are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
