Fun in the sun at Duck Day

The Duck Day Community FĂȘte was held at the Selcourt Enclosure on Saturday.

The idea for a community fĂȘte or fun day came about during a get-together of Tammy Stopforth, Judith Jones and a number of young mothers in the Selcourt Enclosure.

Pleased with the fall in crime in the area as a result of the Selcourt Enclosure and looking for a way to promote good neighbourliness, community spirit and general upliftment in the area, they decided to organise a fun day for the suburb.

It was called Duck Day in honour of the small, recently cleared and upgraded duck pond in Horseshoe Road, where the first fĂȘte was held in October 2013.

The stall holders and 2 000 visitors demonstrated its popularity and there was general consensus that it should become an annual event.

This year proved another resounding success with 65 stall holders and 4 000 visitors.

Under the able chairmanship of Tammy, aided by her enthusiastic team both young and old, everyone enjoyed a day in the sun (and wind).

All were entertained by the Springs Boys’ High Brass Band, progressive music, dancing, mountain bike races and a Pilates demonstration.

A variety of food stalls catered for all tastes, and there were interesting and creative arts and crafts on sale.

All profits will go towards maintenance of the parks, fencing, road signage and the creation of speed bumps.
