Springs police have opened a case of common robbery after a woman was allegedly robbed of her cash.

Captain Johannes Ramphora of the Springs police says the woman lost her money after she was allegedly touched on the shoulder by an unknown man inside Shoprite Supermarket on Monday.

He says another man who claimed to have been a victim of shoulder touching by robbers a few months ago, advised the victim to go with him to look for the man who touched her on the shoulder, allegedly with muthi to rob her of cash.

“They found the man on the street in the CBD and a group of men who were travelling in a private vehicle stopped next to them claiming to be police officers,” says Ramphora.

He added that one of the men who was inside the car pretended to have been arresting the suspect, saying that the police have been looking for him.

Another suspect wanted to withdraw money from the ATM and the victim said that she also wanted to withdraw cash.

The victim withdrew R20 000.

The victim and the suspect went their different ways, however, the victim was shocked to notice that there was no money inside her purse, instead the purse was filled with papers.

She reported the matter to the police and a case of common robbery was opened.
