Man wounded in Payneville tuck shop robbery

A shop owner's brother was shot during a robbery at a tuck shop in Gugulethu on Tuesday (August 19).

The man and his brother was in the shop in Enstra Road at 6.50pm, when three men entered the shop.

Captain Johanne Ramphora, spokesman for the Springs police, says the one robber remained at the door, while the other two approached the owner and his brother at the counter.

The one robber pulled out a gun and pointed it at the owner.

He only ordered the owner to lie on the floor and not his brother.

Ramphora says he according to the owner, he heard a gunshot, but could not do anything as the robber asked him where the money is kept.

He showed the armed robber where the money was and the three robbers left the shop.

It was only then that he noticed his brother was shot in the chest.

Ramphora says the man immediately contacted the police and the ambulance.

The wounded man was taken to a nearby hospital.

No arrests have been made.
