Springs has its own cancer support group

"Together we can make a difference."

This is the slogan of the new cancer support group that held its launch on Saturday.

A group of women came together and saw a need for love and support of cancer patients in Springs.

Josey Nonkonyana of the Reach for Recovery organisation is one of these women who put the group together.

She gave a beautiful speech about winning the fight against cancer as she is a three-time survivor of this disease.

Three candles were lit, each with their own meaning.

One was for the survivors.

The second was for the fighters.

And the third and final candle was for the angels who lost the battle.

Tutti Meadon, one of the group’s members, is also a major contributor and participator in the Pink Trees for Pauline campaign.

Kobus Blomerus from the Global Family Church did not leave a single dry eye in sight after he spoke about his recent big loss in a very touching story.

Losing a child is never easy, but Kobus never lost his faith.

His seven-year-old son was one of the angels who lost the battle after being diagnosed with liver cancer last year.

Kobus says that often cancer patients feel they are a burden for their family members who need to care for and support them.

“You are not a burden, your family stands by you and cares for you not because they have to, but out of the love they have for you.”

Naomi Chapman from Wings of Hope, which started in 2012, is also part of this group to support the community of Springs.

The cancer support group wants to provide support for patients as well as family members who are involved in the turbulence of this disease.
