UPDATE: Attempted robbery in Fifth Avenue

Following yesterday’s shootout between special units of the SAPS and 16 robbery suspects, when the police acted on a tip-off, a further two men bringing the total of arrests to four.
The suspects were targeting two security guards of Jimmy’s Scrap Metals who went to FNB to withdraw money for the company.
The suspects were all armed with AK-47s.
The police managed to apprehend two suspects on the scene and injure another before they fled.
Their alleged getaway car, a white Golf GTI, was recovered on the scene.
The suspects also hijacked a SARS employees’ silver VW Jetta, which was also later recovered, in Strubenvale.
Captain Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman confirmed that then investigation is still ongoing and they are looking for 14 more suspects.
