No more clean water going to waste

A water meter in Selection Park was fixed by the metro on July 24, after it leaked for eight weeks.

There are several water meters on the pavement in front of a block of flats in Rogers Street, but the one was leaking clean water. Kara Lombard reported the leaking meter in June, and although she received a reference number, the metro never came out to fix it. According to her the metro arrived to look at the meter a while ago, but it is exactly what they did, they looked at the meter and left. Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, says the complaint was attended to on June 30, and the job was marked as completed on the metro’s maintenance system. Lombard says the meter must have started leaking again, as she reported the it, four times since June. Every time she reported it she asked for a reference number but was informed the same number applies to all her reports. She reported the incident to the Addie on Monday and was delighted to report back the meter was finally fixed. Gadebe says an inspection was conducted on July 23, where it was established the property is a complex with more than one meter and there were other meters leaking badly. “Instruction was subsequently issued to have all the identified leaking meters attended to as a matter of urgency,” he adds. Lombard says she drove past it this morning and noticed the meters were repaired.
