The SPCA is operating at a loss

Springs SPCA is currently being run at a loss.

Jenny Halvatzis, acting chairman of Springs SPCA, says this organisation needs an urgent cash injection to pay, amongst others, its municipal account, as well as wages of the people working for them.

Their biggest concern is to pay their veterinarian bills.

“These vets give us good rates, but they also need the money we owe them,” says Halvatzis.

Debbie Miller, fundraiser of Springs SPCA calls on each one in the community to give R50 or R100 each month, because this will ensure a steady income for Springs SPCA and they will be able to budget each month.

“We are thankful for the big amounts we are getting, as well as for the regular donations of pet food, because it keeps us going.

She feels if they get the budget covered, Springs SPCA could focus on doing more for the animals in its care.

Miller says the SPCA needs the help of residents in more practical ways, by fixing the kennels, to re-do the kennels’ steel gates or maintain the garden or paint the place.

There are also opportunities to help by paying the vet bills or for people like motor mechanics to service the SPCA’s vehicles or plumbers, painters or lawn mower repairers to offer their services.

Each one who wants to help Springs SPCA may start with this Saturday’s yearly clean-up from 9am until 3pm.

Bring your own tools, steel, paint, plants or whatever you will need.

Anyone who wants to make a contribution may call Miller on 082 668 5230.
