Update: Car found an hour after incident

A good end to a sad story

An hour after Diane Dick’s car was stolen in Eight Street, CBD on Friday it was recovered.

It was during her lunch break that she visited the Addie to place an in memorial advertisement for her father who died a year ago.

After doing so, she walked around the corner from Fifth Avenue, into Eight Street, where her car was parked, when she noticed two men sitting inside her car.

Experiencing the anger of being a civtim of car theft for the third time, she ran to her car screaming and banging on the driver’s side window.

“Needless to say, the thieves immediately pulled away with squeaking tyres causing me to fall to the ground,” she says.

Her hands and knees were hurt due to the fall.

Amanda Hewitt, bookkeeper at the Eastern Gauteng Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EGCCI), heard the distressed calls of Dicks and went outside to assist Dicks.

Hewitt says it is the second car to be stolen, in this area, within two months of which she has witnessed.

Dicks says she is angry, frustrated and fed up with crime.

She claims the robbers must have damaged the lock to gain access to her car.

“I have never parked in Eighth Street, but this is the first and last time I will do that,” she says.

A  case of vehicle theft was opened at the Springs Police Station who followed up on the case immediately.

Dicks says she is grateful to the police for tailing her vehicle and recovering it in KwaThema an hour after the incident.

Brett Erasmus also applauded the fantastic work of  Springs police and says it is to be commended.

“A good outcome to a shocking story,” he adds.
