Resident remembers Nadine Gordimer

Her family was friends with the Gordimer family

Nadine Gordimer was a six-year-old girl at her parents’ wedding.

Gillian Kruger (78) shared a family photo whit the Addie which was taken when her parents, John and Lillius Dingwall got married on March 14,1930.
Nadine was their flower girl at the wedding at the old Presbyterian Church.
The reception was the first big one to be held in the then brand new town hall opposite the train station in Second Street.
Kruger did not know Nadine when she was a child, as Nadine moved to Johannesburg when Kruger was still small.
The Dingwall and Gordimer families were friends and Kruger remembers Mr Gordimer being a jeweler in Second Street where they bought all their jewelery.
