Playing bingo can be fun

Young and old can enjoy a game of bingo

Some believe the key to winning at bingo lies in luck, but others believe the excitement lies in calling out ‘bingo’.

A group of senior citizens enjoy a friendship morning of bingo at the SpringsCare Community Centre every first Tuesday of the month.

Eight games of bingo are played and the players are served with tea and biscuits.

Although newer trends such as electronic and online bingo can be played, these seniors still prefer the traditional game with paper cards.

Bingo is a lot of fun and whatever their reasons for winning at bingo, players need to know the basic rules and etiquette of the game.

How to play bingo

Each player should have at least one card, but some prefer to play with multiple cards at a time. This is harder than just playing with one card, but it increases the chances to win.

Every player listens carefully to the caller and the numbers announced during the game.

Players must mark the correct numbers on their bingo cards as a mistake may cost them a win.

The player shouts bingo when they have a full row.

Bear in mind bingo must be claimed on the most-recent number called.

If the caller has already called the next ball or is in the process of doing so, it is too late to call bingo.

It is necessary to clarify that the correct numbers have been heard before you claim your bingo.

Now that everyone knows what bingo is about, feel free to join the group of players at 10am, on August 7, at the SpringsCare Community Centre.

To book, contact the club on 011 811 1700.
