Springs veteran, Brian Taylor, died on Wednesday, July 2, aged 85.

Brian was much involved in the Springs community over the years, living in Springs for most of his life. He lived in Paul Krugers Oord.

He was known for his work on landmarks such as the War Memorial, for which he had an extreme passion, but was saddened by the current state the memorial is in. He was also very passionate about the Caledonian Society.

Brian retired 22 years ago. His last job was at Impala Platinum. Brian worked around 60 years of his life, and most of it in and around Springs, he chose to retire in Springs, where he also spent the last days of his life.

On Saturday, June 28, he asked his daughter which day it was. Upon hearing the answer, he told her that 58 years ago that day, they moved into their house. A true Springs veteran through and through.

Brian loved photography, he preferred being behind the camera than in front of it. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing bowls as a hobby.

Brian’s wife, Charlotte, died four years ago. Brian is outlived by his two children, a son, Rodney, and daughter, Allyson, and step-grandchildren.

It is a sad loss for the Springs community to lose such a prominent figure.

Brian’s memorial service will be held on Tuesday at Selcourt Methodist Church at 11am.
