Stolen car’s owner sent flying

A shocked yet angry resident waiting to report the incident to the police

A woman fell to the ground when her car was stolen in front of the Advertiser offices today (Friday) at 1.15pm.

Diane Dicks was on lunch when she visited the Addie to place an in memorial advertisement for her father who died a year ago.

As she walked around the corner from Fifth Avenue, into Eight Street, she she noticed two men sitting inside her car.

“I ran to my car screaming and banging on the driver’s side window,” she says.

The thieves immediately pulled away with squeaking tyres causing Dicks to fall to the ground.

Her hands and knees were hurt due to the fall.

It was then that Amanda Hewitt, bookkeeper at the Eastern Gauteng Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EGCCI), heard the distressed calls of Dicks.

Hewitt says it is the second car to be stolen, in this area, which she has witnessed.

Dicks says she is angry, frustrated and fed up as it is her third car to be stolen in two years.

The robbers allegedly damaged the lock to gain access to her car.

“I have never parked in Eighth Street, but this is the first and last time I will do that,” she says.

She opened a case of vehicle theft at the Springs Police Station.
