Crime in brief

A business was robbed by three armed men on Friday.

At 6pm, the owner was helping customers in his Daggaftonein shop when three armed men entered.

One robber pulled out a firearm and pointed it directly at the victim’s face. The second robber also produced a firearm and demanded cash, while the third robber guarded the shop at the entrance.

Captain Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says that one robber ordered the owner and customer to lie on the floor, while the other one took cash, airtime as well as the customer’s cell phone.

The two armed thugs then left the shop, but the one turned around and fired two shots into the shop.

When all three robbers were outside, another shot was fired into thin air.

They left the scene.

No-one was injured and no arrests have been made.

n At 8.05pm on Friday a bottle store in First Avenue, CBD was robbed.

Two employees was still in the shop with the owner preparing to close the shop for the day.

The owner noticed the two workers moving towards the front of the store at gunpoint.

Another man armed with a knife, followed them.

One robber asked the owner where the CCTV cameras were and after showing them to him, the robber cut the wires and pulled the camera off the wall and put it in a plastic bag.

Ramphora says the robber asked for money and the owner pointed out it was kept in the storeroom.

One robber ordered the two employees to lie down on the floor and took the owner to the storeroom where they searched him and took cash.

“It is unknown why they never entered the storeroom, but they took the owner back to the front of the store,” says Ramphora.

The robbers locked the three victims inside the shop and left.

Ramphora says the owner then asked one of the employees to check if the robbers had been gone.

When the man left the shop, the owner heard a gunshot and saw a bloody employee entering the shop.

“He was shot in the left cheek,” adds Ramphora.

It was during this that the owner realised his double cab Toyota Hilux was taken during the robbery.

The police arrived on the scene in no time and arrested the one robber who allegedly fired the shot.

The vehicle was recovered later that evening at the Daveyton Cemetery.
