Violent strikers petrol bomb company in Vulcania (video)

Workers affiliated to trade union Numsa went on a violent rampage in Vulcania on Wednesday.

Striking union members — many armed with sticks and other weapons — blocked roads and caused chaos in the area, threatening non-striking employees and causing damage to many properties.

One company situated along Molecule Road, Vulcania Reinforcing, was subjected to particularly turbulent acts of violence and the premises were petrol bombed.

“There was about 50 or 60 of them, they’ve destroyed the windows, cars and attempted to burn the transformer with a petrol bomb,” said Adam Greve from Vulcania Reinforcing.

“They’ve returned every day since and have been just as violent.”

Greve told the Herald that staff members, especially women, were terrified.

“I heard that security guards at another company were held at gunpoint,” he said.

“They cannot get away with this.”

Greve posted a video to YouTube of the workers causing damage to the premises.

Brakpan police have been monitoring the area.

Numsa embarked on a nationwide strike on Tuesday.

Workers are demanding a 12 per cent salary increase across the board.

  1. This violent and distructive behavior is shocking and not acceptable, if they are striking for a higher wage then burning companies and hurting people and stoning cars and beating up pregnant women has nothing to do with their complaint, it is disgusting and I am ashamed of our country, our government for not doing anything to protect the citizens and for allowing this disgusting behavior to happen. How can companies afford to pay their wage demands when the cost of the damage being caused is enough to close companies down. Its totally unacceptable.

  2. Isn’t this actually called terrorism? When did we as a country start allowing this sort of behaviour. The right to protest? What about our right to be safe?
