Eight-year-old burnt by hot water bottle

Kaitlyn Rossouw has been in the Parkland Clinic since June 14

Kaitlyn Rossouw (8), a Springs resident, has been in the Parkland Clinic since June 14 after she sustained burns when her hot water bottle burst.

The story garnered a lot of attention on our facebook page on Thursday with people debating the reklative dangers of both the traditional rubber hot water bottle which is filled with boiling water and the newer rechargeable “bottles”.

The Addie is still investigating all the details but at this stage it seems the culprit was the older rubber version.

Kaitlyn sustained several burn wounds on her body after the hot water spilt over her and soaked her pyjamas.

It is believed she sustained burning wounds on her tummy, arms and buttocks.

Kaitlyn’s mother, Leonie Rossouw (on the Addie’s Facebook page), gave us her cell number to anyone who wished to contact her, but was unavailable throughout the weekend for comment on the matter.

The Addie has left a number of messages and will continue our attempts to contact her for more information.
