One suspect was arrested for possession of fake cigarretes

One of two suspects was arrested on Thursday, by the Springs police, for the possession of fake cigarettes.

According to the Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora the police received a tip-off from tuck shop owners along Ermelo Road informing them of two suspects who were selling them fake cigarettes.

He says the victims told the police that the suspects claimed to be from the British American Tobacco company and are selling the cigarettes at a discounted price.

“When the victims opened the cigarettes they found that the cigarette cartons were filled with sawdust,” says Ramphora.

One of the suspects managed to escape and the one that was arrested is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.

Anyone with the information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect should call the Springs police on 011 365 5700/19/20.
