Test drive of the GWM H6

GWM’s H6 is a sports utility vehicle even a woman like me can enjoy.

I visited the GWM (short for Great Wall Motors) dealer in Springs, situated in 117 Second Street, to take a brand new, elegant silver model on a test drive.

The H6 is the latest of GWM’s models available in South Africa.

It is a combination of sophistication, style, space and performance and is available in a 2-litre TCI diesel or 1.5-litre Turbo petrol model.

The drive inside the city and on the highway was smooth and enjoyable.

What was new for me is the sixth gear that ensures smooth cruising at high speed.

When getting behind the steering wheel, the first thing I thought of was how easy it was to get into it because it is not as high as other sport utility vehicles I recently encountered.

The seat was adjustable and there was more than enough space for my legs.

The interior has leather seats and what impresses is the multi-function steering wheel with radio and telecom controls.

And of course the rear park assistance with full camera view of what is behind you.

There are ports for Bluetooth, USB and auxillary, and also for DVDs and CDs, all to be viewed on a full-colour touch screen.

The H6 has electric windows and mirrors, as well as safety features like two air bags in the front, ABS brakes, tyre pressure monitoring, adjustable safety belts, rear child lock and remote control central locking.

The boot space is huge and has dividing compartments to ease packing and the back seats can folded away for even more packing space.

The H6 comes out in colours like ivory white, elegant silver, modern grey, classical black, alluring red and for the girls, fashion blue.

The diesel model has a consumption of 6,7 litre/100km and the petrol one of 8,5 litre100km.

The H6 is sold at R369 999 for the diesel model and R309 999 for the petrol.

Each model is sold with a service plan of five years or 60 000km and warranty of five years or 100 000km.

There are also accessories like a towbar available to spruice up your model.
