Metro officials visit open shaft
The ventilation shaft is still a danger to the public
An Addie journalist accompanied two metro officials to the open shaft in Eastvale last Tuesday.
This open shaft raised concern to Eastvale residents as their children are playing in the open field.
Resident Saint Maputle said it leaves him shivering to think that it has been left open.
Robbie Hamilton, acting manager income and his colleague André van Heerden were shocked to see the open ventilation shaft.
After further investigation Hamilton said the metro is only in possession of the name of the owners and a postal address.
A letter has been sent to the land owner.
Hamilton claims the open shaft must have been closed, but the cover was allegedly stolen as pieces of cement can be seen strewn around the hole.
Stevi Glendinning, Gold One International Limited spokesman, recently confirmed that the open shaft does not belong to them.
