Mr South Africa is about a model male and not a male model.

This says Fabian Frank (27) of Bakerton, one of the finalists in the Mr SA 2014 competition.

He requests Springs’ residents to vote for him by SMSing mrsa026 to 47439 (SMSs will cost R3 each).

He had been living in Bakerton most of his life and is currently working at a company in Nuffield that does work in steel engineering.

He attended school at Selcourt Primary School, where he prides himself on having been the first non-white head boy.

For high school he went to Veritas, where he, amongst others, enjoyed playing football, which he also played professionally after school.

He was affiliated to the Santos and Pirates soccer club where he played central midfielder.

After he decided to call his football career to a halt, Fabian became a football analyst for Rainbow FM, a religious radio station in Roodepoort. He also writes on this sport for a UK-based online magazine and conducts football clinics.

Being a man of faith, he has almost daily blogs, especially about faith matters.

He currently started doing TV adverts and other camera work.

He entered for Mr SA when a friend asked him to do it.

Fabian says the Mr SA competition was not about modelling. It is about the aspiration to find a man balanced in health, intelligence, passion, drive, ambition and attractiveness.

This man has to be a leader that can inspire and motivate and also act as role model for boys and men.

Fabian explains the competition was 10 months long, as the 50 final contestants each have to complete tasks to do as a run-up to the final on December 12 at Gold Reef City. This competition has been running since 1982 and some of the previous winners became household names.

These include men like Michael Moll who, after winning, became a Top Billing presenter, Marcus Muller who became an actor on Egoli, Dieter Voigt who became the presenter of Pasella and the current Mr South Africa, John Owens.

On the website www.mrsa.co.za Fabian described himself as: “Martin Luther King said: “Intelligence plus character – That is the goal of true education!” , this is what I have always stood by. Morals, values and integrity form the prism within my soul to always ensure that I first and foremost glorify God’s name in all that I do whilst contributing to growth and development of society. I believe the world of opportunity is at my feet and all dreams come true if you have the courage to pursue them.”

He describes his contribution to Springs and the country if he becomes Mr South Africa in the word “meliorism”, which is the belief that the world can be made better by human effort.

His passion is to rejuvenate the youth, which he does through his church that reaches out to youngsters in Geduld.

Fabian’s dream is to establish a children’s home in Springs that provides free education and free healthcare to children. This dream will happen quicker when he wins Mr SA.
