The incident took place at the Everest/Gugulethu informal settlement on Friday around 8am.
Spokesman for the Springs police, Captain Johannes Ramphora says the victim was crossing a railway line with a friend when three suspects approached them.
He says the victim’s friend ran for his life, leaving the victim behind. The robbers demanded cash and a cell phone from the victim and fled the scene.
“The victim saw a police vehicle and reported the matter and the police looked for the suspects who were arrested in Everest within an hour after the incident,” says Ramphora.
A case of robbery was opened against the suspects and they are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
