Two sections of the SAPS Local Criminal Record Centre might have to move from the Alfa Romeo Building office in Fifth Avenue, from where they have been operating for years.

This is after they received notice to vacate a portion of the office by noon last Friday.

Members of the Local Criminal Record Centre have been operating from there since 1990.

Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says the unit is a single business within the structure of the police.

The Automatic Fingerprint Identification System, Fingerprints, fingerprint and photographic sections are currently operating in the building.

“These sections are responsible for investigation of various crime scenes and the safe keeping of criminal investigation records,” he adds.

Almost 50 people from the fingerprint and photographic section will directly be affected by this decision.

According to Ramphora they cannot comment as this issue involves a lease agreement between the owner of the building and the Department of Public Works.

“The matter is currently being investigated by the forensic services division and the police,” he says.

Further information will be available on request pending the outcome of the investigation.
