Some of metro’s best artists to exhibit

Springs Art Gallery will house the 30/30 group art exhibition

Artists and students have the opportunity to witness the showcase of the region’s best artworks when the 30/30 Ekurhuleni Group Art Exhibition opens on March 15.

This exhibition will be officially opened at 3pm at Springs Art Gallery in the Library Building, corner of Fifth Street and Sixth Avenue.

Thabo Sekoalia, Ekurhuleni visual arts curator, said the 30/30 exhibition was an “open call” where artists could enter works of any medium. The works eventually selected cover a wide variety of art mediums, including, amongst others, installations, photographs and paintings.

He regarded the role of the art gallery to educate. This exhibition will not only do this, but is also balanced and interesting. While getting ready for the exhibition, people were also informally trained in curatorship.

Sekoalia expects a lot of students and lovers of art to view the exhibition.

Besides meeting the 30 top Ekurhuleni artists who will exhibit their works, the opening of March 15 also includes a unique one-day pop-up market where crafters of the region will get a chance to sell their goods at stalls. There will also be singers, dancers and other performers to spice up the afternoon.

Bongani Mkhonza, curator of Unisa Art Gallery, will be the key-note speaker. There will also be guests of the metro and the communities Ekurhuleni.

Admission is free.

This exhibition is open for viewing until April 26 from 9am to 4pm during the week and from 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.
