Retief’s bail relaxed

Ebotse murder accused, Retief Liebenberg's bail conditions were relaxed in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court this morning (Wednesday).

The bail conditions were amended by Magistrate Ian Cox at Liebenberg’s fourth court appearance in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court, following an application by Liebenberg’s advocate, Marius van Wyngaardt.

Van Wyngaardt read an affidavit drafted by his client, in which Liebenberg appealed for the relaxation of the bail conditions set down by the court during his bail hearing on November 15.

The affidavit stated that Liebenberg was not a flight risk and his life is not in danger as he and his family’s lives have not been threatened, directly or indirectly, while on bail.

According to van Wyngaardt his client was medically advised to take a break as his whole life was turned upside down by the incident and he is extremely traumatised.

He also requested a postponement from Cox and said nothing will happen during December which will give them ample time to prepare for the next court hearing.

Cox amended the bail conditions and Liebenberg will no longer have to report to the Benoni Police Station.

The Springs businessman will go to the South Coast on a planned holiday for 15 days to relax as advised by his psychologist.

He is accused of shooting dead Dewalt Visser Snr (46) and his son, Dewalt “Poenie” Visser (20), at the luxury Ebotse Golf and Country Estate in Benoni, on October 31.

The police now have knowledge of three more bullet shells found in the house where the shooting took place and the information has been passed on to the investigators.

His next court appearance will be on February 6 as stated by Cox.
