Tiny rider helps out

While bikers are often perceived as being big and burly, this was definitely not the case when little Matthew Pretorius (7), of Casseldale, took to the road as part of the recent toy run.

“Since he was a baby he liked bikes and we decided to keep it that way,” says his father (also) Matthew.

“He first started off with the black plastic bike then the blue and yellow Sasol bike and this carried on till the one he has now.”

Matthew joined thousands of bikers at the KFC on North Rand Road in Boksburg and rode to the finish line at the Benoni Northern Grounds in Benoni under the watchful eye of his dad and a number of larger bikers making sure he was safe every kilometer of the ride.

Matthew (snr) says that the toy run – and the idea of gathering toys for poor children and those in orphanages – is “a great event and we will not miss it for anything.”

It was for this reason that the father and son duo took to the rode with their bikes festooned with toys.

A proud member of Christian bike club the Immanuael Riders, Matthew took to the road on his replica Yamaha R1 49cc two stroke.

Speaking about the safety of having such a young child on the road during the toy run, Matthew (snr) says Matthew was quite safe during the ride.

“I was right behind him on my bike and the other bikers watched him all the way. Some made a circle around him while he was driving and escorted him along the route.”

“I would just like to thank the community and bikers for their great support looking out for my son on his bike, supporting him all the way to the end .
