E-tolls are official

E-tolls are set to be up and running before the end of this year, according to the SA National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral).

Last month, the president signed E-tolls into law. This move by President Jacob Zuma was slammed by the DA who say it is an insult to the people of the country and that he has not taken into consideration the wishes of the people.

This signing also sparked the court appeal of the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) to challenge the implementation of e-tolls by the Sanral, which was last week week dismissed by the Supreme Court.

“E-tolls will commence as soon as the Minister of Transport has met all the administrative and statutory requirements. This should happen within the next few weeks meaning that tolling will commence before the end of the year,” says general manager of communications at Sanral, Vusi Mona.
