Girl’s narrow escape

A 10-year-old girl was almost raped by house robbers when left home alone with her four-year-old brother.

Last Thursday, a mother left her two children at their Slovo Park home to go visit her boyfriend in Daveyton.

According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, she left the children in the house and at 8:30pm robbers gained entry to the house through a window.

“It is alleged the women owed the robbers money,” says Capt Ramphora.

The robbers searched the woman’s handbag, which she had left at home, and found cash and a Nokia cellphone.

Capt Ramphora adds the men also took a very expensive pair of takkies.

The robbers took the children with them to a nearby bush and ordered the girl to get undressed.

“The girl says the men were drunk and she took her time to get undressed. When she saw an opportunity, she grabbed her brother and ran away,” says Capt Ramphora, adding that the robbers would have raped the girl, but luckily she and her brother got away unharmed.

No arrests have been made.
