Treason trial continues

The four Mangaung accused, Springsite Johan Prinsloo, Mark Trollip, Martin Keevy and Hein Boonzaaier briefly appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday when the next trail date was set.

While Prinsloo and Trollip remain behind bars, all the charges were dropped against Boonzaaier, who was given bail of R80 000 in January.
It is alleged that Boonzaaier has not met with two of his co-accused since they were arrested on December 16.
Prinsloo and Trollip went on a 12-day hunger strike at the Grootvlei prison due to the fact that they have not received a charge sheet, and because they were unhappy about their bail refusal.
Prinsloo’s bail application is set to take place this week.
Prinsloo and Trollip’s health was seriously undermined in recent weeks after the hunger strike.
“His (Prinsloo’s) health condition was reasonable under the circumstances,” says Johan Kramer of Kramer, Weimann and Joubert Attorneys in Bloemfontein.
“He is doing much better now than after the hunger strike. He is eating well and his strength will rebuild in no time. He always had a healthy spirit that keeps him clearheaded,” said the source.
Keevy was sent back for his third evaluation , will will expire on September 20, at the Free State Psychiatric Hospital to establish if he will be fit for trial in November.
The trial cannot take place in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court due to juristicational limitations and has therefore been moved to the Free State High Court.
The trail for Prinsloo, Trollip and possibly Keevy, has been set down to take place from November 4 to 15.
