Bomb scare in CBD

Shop owners, staff and shoppers at the Palm Springs shopping complex had to be evacuated from the area on Monday after police announced a bomb threat.

According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, a call was received around 1pm by the police in Springs about a bomb.

“We were told by an anonymous caller that a bomb had been placed at the PQ Fashion Outlet at the shopping complex. We then rushed to the scene,” says Capt Ramphora.

The K9 unit was called in and no bomb was found at the shop or surrounding outlets.

Curious shoppers waited outside as police thoroughly searched the area. After a few hours, shop owners were given the all clear to carry on with the business of the day.

According to Capt Ramphora, investigations are still ongoing. No arrest have been made.
