Keevy sent to psychiatric hospital again

Martin Keevy (49), one of the four men arrested and charged with treason and conspiracy in December, was found unaccountable and not fit to be trialed, according to a psychiatric report filed in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on July 19.

The state disputed the report on Keevy, drafted by a panel of psychiatrists and psychologists, after the court ordered he undergo a 30-day evaluation at the Free State Psychiatric Complex in May.

Magistrate Andries Schoeman requested Keevy’s trial be postponed until August 16 on request of Advocate Torie Pretorius SC, on behalf of the state, until more psychiatric experts can observe Keevy and further reports can be compiled. He was referred to the hospital again for observation.

Although magistrate Mziwonke Hinxa refused bail to Keevy, and his accomplices Trollip and Prinsloo, Boonzaaier was released on R80 000 bail in January.

Boonzaaier, Prinsloo and Trollip’s cases were postponed until August 23 for further investigation.

Adv Pretorius, assisted by Advocate Silas Chalale, is acting for the state while Marius Bruwer, assisted by Stefan de Beer, is acting for Keevy.

Captain Francois Laux is the investigating officer.
