On Mandela Day, Springs Muslim School donated food parcels to learners of Payneville Primary School in Bakerton.

Muniera Choughley along with other members of the school decided to donate the food parcels after the group visited the hospital where Nelson Mandela is receiving treatment.

“After visiting the hospital, we decided to do something in our own community that would build a long standing relationship to initiate change. We decided on Payneville Primary, where we could offer our assistance over an extended period of time,” said Muniera.

Both the deputy principal of Payneville Primary, Amin Ballim, and principal, Edward Mahlangu, were grateful to Springs Muslim School for their contribution and willingness to partner with them.

Springs Muslim School treated the children of Paynville Primary to a food parcel each.

The Grade R children were also treated to a chocolate cupcake each.

When asked how this initiative has impacted the school, Mahlangu said, “this shows how schools can work together, along with various Non Governmental Organisations as well as government to make a change, it celebrates Nelson Mandela’s birthday, life and how his actions set an example for all of us.”

Both Ballim and Mahlangu are proud of the school’s achievements thus far, and it has set the example of racial equality and diversity in its school.
