K9 Dogs sniff out drugs

The EMPD K9 Unit conducted special operation from last Wednesday at 4pm until 8am last Thursday in Brakpan, Springs and Benoni.

According to EMPD spokesman Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, various types of narcotics worth approximately R32 000 were confiscated from five drug dealers and eight undocumented persons were arrested.

Although phase one was conducted in Brakpan and phase three in Benoni, phase two concentrated on Springs where a variety of narcotics to the value of R17 380 were recovered.

“Two drug dealers were apprehended, one undocumented person arrested, three vehicles impounded and at least 15 vehicles stopped and searched,” says Supt Kgasago.

High visibility patrols were conducted at crime and accident hotspots in Springs and surrounding areas.

According to the Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora, with the drug raids taking place during July, they’ve had many successes.

“It pays off to work hand in hand with the EMPD and we appreciate their help as well as the community’s input,” says Capt Ramphora.
