The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) caught nine motorists speeding on Thursday morning in Springs.
Senior Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman of the EMPD says the speed law enforcement was done on Welgedacht Road between Enstra Road and Grootvaly Road.
This is a 60km/h zone, in which nine speedsters were arrested within half an hour, between 5am and 5:30am.
A 38-year-old female driver in a Toyota sedan, who claimed she was rushing to work, was caught doing 108km/h.
Three drivers in their early thirties, all driving German-made vehicles clocked at speeds of between 100km/h and 107km/h while the rest of the motorists that were caught registered speeds of between 99km/h and 96km/h.
All the arrested motorists were charged with reckless and negligent driving at Springs police station and released on bail of R1 000.
They are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
I think the EMPD are wasting time harrassing people on off roads and quads, “STEALING” their motorcycles, by illegally “impounding” it, without giving a fine or warning, the EMPD should concentrate on speedsters and unroadworthy vehicles and drivers skipping stop streets and red robods, instead they waste money and time on petty things like “imounding” left right and centre. What is this country coming to, no wondr nobody trust an uniform nowadays, cause they r mostly corrupt. Just sit for an hour in Lake Road Strubenvale, and see just how many idiots are racing down that road, where its an residential area, but they think its a race track, where is the EMPD then. They should stop “stealing” hardworking peoples motorcycles and start doing their jobs. You KNOW its WRONG, and you KNOW its ILLEGAL, but yet you intimidate people and still “impound” their stuff. If they need a motorcycle, I feel they can do like we do, work for their own money and earn it honostly and go buy themselves off roads or quads, and stop harrassing and victemising people who don’t do any crimes. So please “metro cops” start doing honost work and do your jobs propperly, then more CRIMINALS can go where they belong, instead of innoccent teens, that just ride around, not speeding, not doing drugs or alchahol or indangering other peoples lives. Do your jobs right and fair. Stop abusing your authoroty, uniform and titel, it gives the EMPD and the few honost collegues a bad reputation.
