Have your say about siding
The basic assessment report on the proposed Welgedacht Coal Railway Siding is available for scrutiny at Springs Library until September 8.
This siding will be extended to handle coal from the open-cast colliery that will open close to it.
The coal will be transported by road from the mine to the siding where it will be put on trucks to transport to the customers.
This draft report will provide details on the potential impact that the proposed Welgedacht Railway Siding may have on the environment.
Jacqui Davies, environmental scientist of Ukozi Environmental, the company that is doing the assessment, says the purpose of the basic assessment is to provide the government and other spheres of authority with sufficient information on which they will base their decision to either grant or refuse an environmental authorisation.
