House burns down in Dersley

A double-story house in Dersley burnt down on Monday afternoon.

A woman, who is a widow, lived there with her two children, a daughter (7) and son (4), and had to rush her children out of the house when it caught fire.

The house has a thatch roof and immediately went up in flames.

Residents say the house was gone in just 30 minutes, with flames reaching higher than the tall Pine trees on the property.

Nothing could be saved inside the house after the fire department left, the family walked out with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

Residents said that the fire department only arrived an hour after the initial phone call to 117 and 10177.

The Addie is waiting for comment from Ekurhuleni officials.

More information will be given later.
