Medal ceremony at Dunnottar

Several medal recipients and their families at the medal parade

The 1 Construction Regiment in Dunnottar hosted a medal parade for the South African Army Engineer Formation on Friday.

The general officer commanding Brigadier General Willis Nkosi awarded the medals to all the recipients.

The medals were awarded to members for long service of 10 years, 20 years and for participating in the external deployments.

Public service certificates of 10 and 20 years’ service were given to civilians working in the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

The 1 Construction Regiment is involved in various peace-keeping operations and supports the Republic of Congo and Sudan.

There were 426 members present from various engineer units including the South African Army Engineer Formation School of Engineers, 1 Construction Regiment, 2 Field Engineer Regiment, 35 Engineer Support Regiment, Engineer Terrain Intelligent Regiment and 19 Field Engineer Regiment.

Colonel Gerrit Janse van Vuuren, Chief of Staff SA Army Engineer Formation in Pretoria, previously commander of 35 Engineer Support Regiment, was one of 45 members who received the Bar to the “Medalje vir Troue Diens”.

Seventeen members received bronze good service medals.

Two members received their special bronze service medal for being members of the SANDF who, whilst serving with the Umkhonto we Sizwe before April 27, 1994, distinguished themselves by long and efficient service of 10 years.

Special collective citation Maluti Clasp went to Sergeant MM Ramphele who distinguished himself by participating in operations Boleas and Maluti in Lesotho in 2002.

The Tshumelo Ikatelaho collective citation went to Corporal BS Rapulana who distinguished himself by rendering military service directly or in support of a military operation.

One civilian received a public service certificate for 30 years’ service and four civilian members received their 20 years’ public service certificates.
