Family farming project

Ekurhuleni initiates this to help struggle veterans

Ekurhuleni Metro extended a helping hand to military liberation struggle veterans to start their own family farming.

This project was launched on Friday at Germiston Lake when more than 100 veterans received agricultural tools to assist them to start producing their own vegetables.

The project is based on the year 2014 being declared by the United Nations Assembly as the Year of Family Farming. This type of farming is viewed as the cornerstone to revive urban agriculture and contribute to food security and balanced diets.

In view of this world pursuit, Ekurhuleni forged a partnership with the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) to give military liberation struggle veterans a chance to have their own family farming projects.
