The generous Cheryl Havenga

Cheryl Havenga, president of the Springs Rotary Anns, values her family above all.

She has been involved with the Rotary Anns for the past eight years and became a Rotarian last year.

She is also married to the president of the Springs Rotary Club, Geoff Havenga.

Cheryl has been president of the Springs Rotary Anns for the past three years.

According to Cheryl, she became involved in Rotary because it provided an opportunity to make a difference.

“It’s difficult to make a difference in a community by yourself,” she says.

According to Cheryl, the main ideal that all Rotary members should uphold is ‘service above self.’

Cheryl also says that anyone who wants to join Rotary is more than welcome.

The two projects that are close to Cheryl’s heart are Vita Nova and Potter’s Haven.

“Children are special,” Cheryl says,

“And I love doing anything to do with children or fighting cancer.”

Cheryl says that there is no novelty in being a Rotarian,

“What you put in is what you get out.

“It’s not a novelty, it’s a way of life,” she says.

In Cheryl’s opinion, she is inspired by people and her family.

“At the moment, I am very inspired by the youth of this country,” she says.

She says that she prefers to help people help themselves as opposed to just giving them a handout.

She uses the words honest, reliable, shy, trustworthy and dependable to describe herself.

What Cheryl loves about being in Rotary is making a difference no matter how small.

And, according to her, she will continue her work with the Rotary club for as long as she is able to.

When asked what she does in her spare time, Cheryl laughs and asks,”What’s that?”

“I don’t have much spare time, and I like to make time for my family because they are so close to my heart.”

When she does have a couple of hours to spare, Cheryl enjoys visiting the children at Potter’s Haven.
