Ten years in prison for rapist

A man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for rape on February 25, in the Springs Regional Court.

The incident took place in July where he met his victim at

a garage in Ermelo Road, Strubenvale.

Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says, the woman was looking for a lift at 8pm, when she was approached by this man.

“He said she will not find a lift at that time, and offered her shelter for the night,” he says.

It was when they reached his house, that he locked the door and raped her.

The following day the victim went to the Springs Police Station to lay a charge of rape against him.

He was arrested and taken to the police cells.

Ramphora says the sentence is 10 straight years in prison.
