Daggafontein residents are fed-up

The Advertiser recently received a complaint from a disgruntled Daggafontein Extension Two resident.

Marion Vlaming is angry about the streetlights on Lyster Avenue being cut down and stolen.

According to Vlaming, the streetlights on Lyster Avenue stopped working last year and were subsequently stolen.

After reporting the problem numerous times, the lights were replaced in August last year.

“The new lights were put up and as soon as the first rain came, they stopped working again,” says Vlaming.

On the morning of February 4 Vlaming reportedly heard banging and cutting.

She went to investigate and found that one of the streetlights had been dug out of the ground but not removed.

“We are angry, this is beyond ridiculous,” Vlaming told the Advertiser.

According to Vlaming, they have complained numerous times, to no avail.

Vlaming says that the only reason the streetlight has not been stolen yet is because it is cemented in place.

She says that the streetlight will just be cut down and stolen.

CPF chariman Barries Barnard was also on the scene.

“We have a very good CPF here, but at night no-one hears what’s going on,” says Vlaming.

Barnard also reported that since the new streetlights have been put up, the lights on Macon Street have stopped working.

Barnard says that complaining doesn’t help and that nothing does.

Residents in the area are concerned about the lights not working.

“It’s so dark that you can’t even see the road at night,” says Vlaming.

Ward councillor for ward 76 (Daggafontein), Clr Shadow Shabangu, said that he has reported the matter.
