Fast food’s deep fryer caught fire

A fast food outlet's deep fryer caught fire just before lunch time today (February 5) in Fifth Avenue, Springs CBD.

The emergency services and fire trucks arrived on the scene within minutes after the call was received.

The owner of Monate Fast Foods & Take Aways Xue Ming says one of his employees was making chips and noticed the oils started to boil.

“The next minute the oil caught fire, but luckily no one was hurt,” he says.

Emergency Service’s senior district manager Sugaa Moodley, confirms it was the chips fryer that started the fire.

The fire was put out in no time and blowers were used to blow the smoke out of the shop.

“The electrical wire of the main isolator were also melted,” says Moodley.

He adds smoke was detected at the back of the shop as well, but the damage is restricted to the deep fryer.
