Disaster park

Agnes Wallace, a resident of Edelweiss, recently reported to the Advertiser that the park on Protea Road in Edelweiss looks absolutely disgusting.

Upon arrival at the park it could be seen that it was not in the best state.

Concrete tables once used for eating and picknicking lay broken on the ground, their tops long gone.

The tyre swings once played on by jovial children lay broken and unused.

Broken bottles and broken children’s toys lay strewn over the recently cut grass, giving one thoughts of childhood innocence lost.

According to Wallace, there might also be a squatter living in the park, but the Addie can neither confirm or deny this statement’s validity.

When asked for comment, the media officer for the metro, Themba Gadebe had this to say, “The Park furniture is new. It was installed in the 12/13 financial year and it is vandalised by the residents using the park. Due to the fact that it is new, repairs have not been budgeted for in this financial year as we did not expect the park to be vandalised so soon.”

In regard to the litter, Gadebe continued to say that residents around the park are requested not to litter around the park as this causes problems for municipal employees when they have to clean the park.

According to Gadebe, the squatter will be removed from the park by EMPD.
