Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora says it has been brought to the police’s attention that there are SMSes being sent to people persuading them to send their ID and bank account numbers.
He says the victims of these SMS are the people who have opened cases in different police stations around Ekurhuleni.
He explains that the SMS that is sent by the police to the victim after opening a case contains the name of the police station, case number, the name of the investigating officer and the reference number.
“If the SMS sent to you asks you to send your ID and account number, you must know that it is not from the police and I advise all the victims to ignore it,” says Capt Ramphora.
