Huge celebrations for Springs Rugby Club

The Springs Rugby Club held their end of season prize giving on November 2 as well as celebrating the club's 90th birthday.

All the rugby players and their families, along with the players from years past, came together to celebrate the past 90 years of the club’s history and to look towards the future.

“I joined the club as head coach in 1999 and have won the league 10 years out of 13 years that I have coached the 1st team. Springs has won the Plate division at the National Club Champs in Stellenbosch in 2004 and 2007. In 2009 the tournament was played in Pretoria where we reach the semi-final against NWU – PUKKE and were rated the 5th best club in the country,” says 1st team coach Kobus van Rooyen.

Springs has also won the Falcons Premier League 14 times out of the last 17 years from 1997.

The day was a great success, with the prize winners being honoured.

1st Team player of the year was jointly awarded to Johan Zondag and Anton van Deventer,

Forward of the year was Dowayn Botha,

Backline player of the year was given to Clayton Krause,

Most up-and-coming player of the year was Martinus du Plessis,

Most point for 2013: Dawie van Niewenhuisen

Most tries for 2013 awarded to Riaan Botha,

2nd Team player of the year was given to Robin Howell,

3rd Team player of the year was Marius Strauss,

0/21 Player of the year was Francois Roux and

0/19 Player of the year was awarded to Tiaan Koekemoer.
