Charity Mile fever

Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile is just around the corner and excitement is building among local celebrities, top South African trainers as well as the Peermont Children’s trust charities that have been selected to participate in the day’s festivities.

The annual event takes place on November 2 and is synonymous with South Africa’s most famous faces as each runner in the feature race is associated with both a charity and a local celebrity.

Although organisers are keeping mum on the selection of famous faces for the 2013 race meeting, last year’s event hosted none other than Her Serene Highness, Princess Charlene of Monaco.

Phumelela’s Sales Executive, Clyde Basel says HSH has a long association with horse racing and along with the Racing Association, also announced the HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco Starling Stakes will be featured once again on the racing itinerary and in addition, the programme will include, the HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco Maiden Mile and the HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco Maiden Sprint.

The two maiden races that have been programmed are specifically for horses that have not won a race in their racing career.

The princess’s generosity will enable lesser performing race horses to be acknowledged for their efforts.

The nomination fee upon entry for these two races and the proceeds will be split equally between two charities the Highveld Horse Care Unit and the National Thoroughbred Trust.

The day itself offers something for the entire family with live entertainment, a celebratory autograph signing, beer garden and kid’s carnival.
