Metro condemns arson

The Ekurhuleni metro has issued a statement condemning the burning of a councillor’s house in Duduza on Thursday.

According to the statement by spokesman Sam Modiba, Councillor Silas Letsimo’s house was burnt down in an incident whose motive remains unclear.

Cllr Letsimo’s two young children, who were in the house at the time of the incident, escaped unharmed.

A case of malicious damage to property and arson is being opened at the local police station.

“The vandalising and damaging of public and private property can never be justifiable under any circumstances. It remains unclear what is the reason behind this attack. We hope the police will be able to bring to book those behind this criminal act,” commented Speaker of Council Cllr Patricia Kumalo, condemning the incident.

The African Reporter will report on the whole stories once details have been confirmed.
